Brilliantly portrayed. Shows Ray Charle's amazing journey from being an impoverished, blind, 9 year old who was blamed by his mother for his younger brother's drowning death to an acclaimed and innovative figure on the world music scene. We see that as Ray's hearing was tuned to navigate his way around life's obstacles by the reverberation of his hard sole shoes, so did he learn to navigate his way along the snaky road to the top of the music world by listening to the reverberations the audience gave the music welling up inside of him. His music caught the human sadness and struggle of being blind and black in America. Women and drugs helped fill up the empty spaces of life on the road. Maybe the movie was about 20 minutes too long, but the great music helps pull it through to the end - demonstrates how a great biographical movie should be made!
