Oscar Nomminee ISABELLE ADJANI for The Story of Adéle H played Camille Claudel in 1988 to very great acclaim winning a second nomination as Best Actress. She happened to be the sister of the great French writer Paul Claudel and intimately associated with the great sculptor Rodin. The constant missteps of her life with a myriad of problems becomes truly tragic. This is the story of a desperate woman who never again works at her craft and is eventually institutionalized. The film points out the fickle finger of fate and the forces working against her. Adjan's dynamic performance is all mirrored in her face which is always so telling in so many of her roles. The film is slow and methodical as it should be but best of all it makes us understand this mysterious woman.
