    Children of a Lesser God

A drama about deafness which first appeared on Broadway as an Award Winning Play. This drama about deafness cannot but touch whosoever sees it. Marlee Matlin shines in the role and is very lucky to have won the Oscar as there haven't been too many roles, if any, for an actor with deafness as a major handicap let alone that her pattern of speech is barely comprehensible. William Hurt plays a teacher at the school for the deaf. The film adaptation is slightly softened from the heavy hitting play that appeared on Broadway.
