A totally charming documentary of the author of Little Women. Alcott seems to be known for this one book alone as the Canadian author of Anne of Green Gables, but both women wrote so much during their prolific careers when they were very popular authors. Now they seem like one book wonders. It is pretty amazing that Little Women has been filmed more than four times, the four talking versions, all eventful films. Little Women also went on to a six month stay on Broadway and it has also been turned into a grand lyric opera by, thankfully, an American composer. As I watched this documentary on this dynamo of a writer, it kept crossing my mind how incredibly this one novel would prove generation after generation. Would that Louisa May Alcott were aware of this! Maybe she is!!!
