Oscar Nominee James Cagney is brilliant in this musical drama about great songstress Ruth Etting. It's criminal that Miss Doris Day, in one of her most provocative, strong roles was NOT Oscar nominated as Best Actress of 1955. She so richly deserved a nomination in a rare, flawless dramatic role. The story, if not completely accurate, as Hollywood is apt to do is nonetheless very compelling. The inter-play between part gangster Cagney and the woman he loves (Day) is as realistic and intense as it gets.
