Mon Pire Cauchemar = My Worst Nightmare. This French film by Anne Fontaine is finally out on DVD. It stars the inimitable Isabelle Huppert, one of the truly great French actors of the last 25 years or more. I have seen her in some English speaking roles and she comes off just as great. She's an art dealer with her husband Benoit Poelvoorde a publisher... with one son. It all seems like a typical bourgeois family but we see cracks everywhere. With one solitary event (can't spoil the plot ) everything begins to unravel. The movie is basically a romantic comedy, or so the producers say, but it really is a lot more. The subtitles are pretty accurate, but if you are able to see Mon Pire Cauchemar in the original French so much the better, the French utterly beautifully spoken. I liked this film quite a bit, but the French are not producing truly great films as in the past.
