I've always loved the perky Claudette Colbert and here she takes on one of her dark roles under the masterful direction of famed Douglas Sirk. Colbert is quite good as a woman on the edge who knows little of her husband's behaviour. I would have rated the film Higher but Robert Cummings never quite seemed to fit the picture of a Hollywood leading man though indeed he was. Don Ameche who usually sings and dances in his 20th century Fox films takes on the eerie role of clandestine husband.
