This is one of the most brilliant of silent movies which came just before talking pictures would take its definitive place in film history. I saw this not long ago and was impressed by brilliant direction and acting especially from Janet Gaynor who would become the first woman to win an Oscar as Best Actress in the first year of competition. She was cited for 3 films (the only year for silents) one of which was Sunrise. The plot may seem mundane, even a trifle stale for 1927, but don't let that put you off. There are too many good things about the film that just might convert you to watching more silents.
