    The Imitation Game

The Imitation Game is certainly one of the finest if not the finest film of 2014. And yes it stands a chance at a possible BEST OSCAR PICTURE WIN though there are so many deserving films again this year. It certainly will be nominated in several categories. The main trio of stars from Benedict to Matthew Goode to Keira Knightley who is having one hell of a banner year really do hit one collective huge home run. I went into the movie with loads of information, in fact, overloaded with information about Alan Turing, interested in his génial mind from years ago, not simply because of the sensation caused by this quite perfect film. Knowing almost everything dealt with in the film didn't dampen my enthusiasm for it in the least. I SIMPLY LOVED IT from the moment I saw it at TIFF to two other screenings. I do hope KIERA will receive a Best Supporting Nomination for Imitation Game, a nomination she also deserves for Begin Again in which she is so charming in a LEADING role. It goes without saying that CUMBERBATCH will ultimately be one of the 5 MALE nominees for BEST ACTOR. Unlike the last 3 years in which there was always a very clear cut winner at hand... from Daniel Day-Lewis to last year's Matthew McConn., this year it's a slightly different scenario, still a very tight race. If one actor wins the Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 11, 2015, then goes on to win SAG on Jan. 25, 2015, I think we will pretty well know who the Oscar Winner will be. I believe the Oscar nominees will be:

    Michael Keaton... Birdman

    Benedict Cumberbatch... The Imitation Game

    Steve Carell... Foxcatcher

Eddy Redmayne... The Theory of Everything

Jake Gyllenhaal... Nightcrawler OR David O... SELMA

It's a tough choice this year and even more interesting is the fact that it is the FIRST NOMINATION for each actor... except for Jake who received a Best Supporting Actor Nomination for Brokeback Mountain in 2005. In any case, a first time nominee will win on his first try for Best Actor. Each man is more than deserving of a win, but all are still young. To my thinking... VETERAN Michael Keaton, NEVER nominated through a very long, distinguished career is going to be taking Oscar home with him.
