This was a bit of a snoozer. I think Robert Redford was too old for the part. He looked a bit elderly for setting out on this trip (Bill Bryson sets out on this hike in his 50s if I remember correctly. Redford looks like he's 80+) The back packs were obviously not loaded, and both men were way too clean. Redford's beige pants were immaculate after days on the trail. There were some funny moments, but not that many. I liked the book, and I've been a Robert Redford fan for decades - but this was not one of his better films.
