Good Hair

As a black woman, I think the documentary missed an important point: why do black people in the Americas talk about good hair vs bad hair? How were they ingrained with this theory? How brainwashed and ignorant mothers (filled with self-hatred sometimes) have been passing it along to such extent that their daughters just happen to hate their hair? Yes, black hair is very hard to manage especially in cold climates like the north hemisphere; its texture is not made for humid environments. Ask any dermatologist, he/she'll tell you. Yes, women like versatility when it comes to their looks and black hair do have this ability to be transformed in any style. Well, this flexibility balances the kinkiness and the nappiness people seem to hate or endure. The documentary focuses on the contemporary economic aspect of a real issue within the black community. Why do white men tend more to see a black woman with short natural hair as beautiful when black men and women who would rather think that she isn't coquettish? There's a historic and social venue here which is worth exploring that was totally missed or slightly skimmed over in the movie. Chris Rock doesn't even answer to his daughter question which sets the whole idea of the documentary: "Daddy, why do have bad hair? " It's not about having what's inside the head more important than what's above. It's about any black woman who is sporting her hair natural, braided, weaved, relaxed, in locks, doing it from the bottom of her heart because she wants to and not because somebody told her that she had bad hair.
