    42nd Street

This is the famous film in which a star is created overnight when the lead lady, in this case, Bebe Daniels, becomes incapacitated and a chorus girl, an incredibly young, Canadian born Ruby Keeler steps into her shoes and becomes an overnight sensation. Though from Warner Brothers in 1932, the film still holds its own as a classic of the musical genre with unbelievable dance numbers from the incomparable Busbey Berkley. The musical numbers are delicious and all recognizable. Warner Baxter plays the ailing director with the above two leading ladies. What is even more precious is that '42nd Street' offers very early looks at future superstars like Ginger Rogers, Dick Powell, George Brent, Una Merkel and more. A delightful romp which became a gargantuan Broadway Musical Sensation in the 1980's and revived in later years.
