I actually take the time to look at what all of the numbers mean when we are critiquing films and Cinema Clock has chosen the word 'masterpiece' for a 10. Although this is not a masterpiece it is an excellent movie. The boat should not be missed as to why it is. Cronenberg shows us through a mainstream style of film that a person, although he has changed and moved on from a life of crime, is still haunted by unfinished business. He also shows us that love is powerful and that his family, although upset by the truth of his past, accepts him again for the good that he is and not the bad that he was. This is a film about baggage that haunts us human beings until we make resolution and are willing to do anything it takes to accomplish the task ahead. The actors in this film are fantastic. William Hurt was a great surprise coming in at the end. It was like the proverbial cherry on the cake. The "look" of the film is great and reminscent of Norman Jewison's work on In The Heat of the Night from '68. Bravo Cronenberg!
