A Million Ways to Die in the West

I was really looking foreword to A Million Ways to Die in the West. Seth MacFarlane has a direct line to my funny bone and I love everything he touches. Yes, even the recent episodes of Family Guy. When I saw that this movie has a 34% on Rotten Tomatoes and has been getting horrible reviews, I was very sad. Well, walking out of this movie I was disappointed, but not as much as I thought I would have been. Seth MacFarlane gives an okay performance as the leading man. However, I did not believe his character for a second and he just played himself. Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, Giovanni Ribisi, Amanda Seyfried and Neil Patrick Harris all give very funny, if sometimes underused, performances. Especially Liam Neeson, he was in the movie for approximately ten minutes. Some of the best parts of this movie lie in the music and cinematography. They really pay homage to the original western films from the 60s and the music was utterly incredible. Now, you're probably asking yourself by now, how funny is it? Well, it wasn't THAT funny. In fact, I laughed way less than I thought I would have. There are a few moments that were total comedic genius and had me laughing very hard. However, these moments are not common and far between. There are quite a few chuckles, but not that many. There were many failed jokes that just did not work, and there were times when they extended funny jokes until they just got repetitive. This movie is two hours long, and you really feel it. It had a very quick pace until 3/4 through. Then, the movie could have ended on multiple occasions and it really should have. Overall, A Million Ways to Die in the West is a disappointment, but it does have it's moments. If you go to this movie expecting Blazing Saddles, you will be very upset. If your expectations aren't too high, and you're just going to have a good time, you'll have fun. RATING: 6.75/10.
