Anton Corbijn's new film has more plot twists and turns than a wild eel. The great Philip Seymour Hoffman (speaking in a heavy German accent) offers us the character of a world-weary man in the spy game who desperately desires to do good. What we have here is the bare-bones spy world of John Le Carre (Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy) which is far-removed from the glitz and glamour of the 007 universe. For those who prefer plot over action, this film will be their cup of tea. Others beware-this movie is quite talky. It's dedicated "in loving memory of Philip Seymour Hoffman." This has been a year of heavy losses of great actors-old and young. It's time to say: Grim Reaper, please go away. You've done enough!
