Ewan McGregor has been in some of my favourite films, and travelogues. This is a mid 20th century tale, and the theme familiar to most baby boomers. Nothing wrong with the performances. Good cast, all served their roles well. Peter Riegert, Uzo Aduba and Valorie Curry exceptional. Ewan was a tad bombastic, and the martyrdom poured heavily. I felt the material somewhat one dimensional, wearing and my indulgences worked pretty hard. Have attempted the book, but it never grabbed hold of me, so it is here. Good looking film, appropriate to its era. Pacing was a bit irregular for me. Worth seeing, but could have delivered more.
