It's difficult to believe this movie came from the same guy who brought us The Wrestler. At least in the latter, one could see glimpses of human kindness and decency and even a certain joy of life. While I certainly enjoyed the technical aspect and great acting in this one (Portman and Cassel are magnificient), the problem lies in its extremely caricatural view of human beings in general which completely eradicates any sense of realism. It basically shows the human being at its worst all the time. If there would have been at least one sane person that would have shown some love or genuine goodness in the life of the queen swan I would have probably given it a 9 but alas, there is no goodness, only evil and blackness which probably explains why she actually decides to snuff it in the end (or did she really? ) Who could honestly live in a world like that? The Black Swan is a black movie indeed. It's not dark as some have mentioned, it's black and explicitly horrific at times! Be warned. The trailers might lead you to expect something else completely. Also, while I found the sex scenes to be enticing if not necessary, some might not.
