OH dear- so disappointing. I guess that's what comes from going to see a movie and knowing nothing about it beforehand-except that I "should" see it. Where to begin? Started out trying to be one movie- an exploration of a rich succcessful 40 year old albeit unhappy man and a poor yet happy Downs Syndrome boy - and ended up being about the ex-wife, the mother and reincarnation! Who was the narrator? Why did the camera keep lingering on numerous inconsequential scenes which had no relevance or follow-up - the long walk at the airport-the psychiatrist's meetings- getting acupuncture-the mother's hairstylist friend (what a wasted character- was he the one who leaves the paper-boats for the kid to float in the drain? ) Some characters didn't even seem to have names!!! What a jumble. And the casting was appalling. The younger version of the ex-wife had no physical similarity to the older one. The ex-wife and her best friend were interchangeable brunettes- took me a while to figure out which one was the main character. And Vanessa Paradis is a model - not an actress - who couldn't stop playing with her hair. And was I supposed to know that Cafe de Flore was a band? Is it a band? The one good thing in it was the two young children who played Laurent and Vero. OH yes and the soundtrack. Where can I get the music?
