Matthew McConaughey has progressed from those mediocre rom-coms to a world class actor ever since appearing in The Lincoln Lawyer, Bernie and Mud. The AIDS epidemic has lately been ignored as a subject for screen plays, but this film brings back the topic as a reminder that the problem of the disease remains and that governments need to be aware that a cure has not been found and that patients need support to fund their expensive treatments. McConaughey is a strong candidate for an Oscar, as is Jared Leto as his transgendered "partner in crime."
