This tremendous 1948 film noir directed by little known Abraham Polonsky has had great impact on future filmmakers right down to Martin Scorsese and his numerous gangster flicks. Garfield who died very young, a few years after this film, plays a wall Street lawyer who gets involved with a racketeer wanting to take over the Rackets Numbers in NYC. It seems alright till things start coming a bit too close to home. A memorable film on so many levels.
