Late but great Hitchcock as a 'Kneck-tie Strangler' is terrorizing London. Jon Finch is the man framed for the killings. This is not a case of finding out 'who done it' as Hitchcock lets us in on killer very early in the film, a sort of mild mannered Londoner played by Barry Foster. This is one of Hitchcock's more brutal thrillers accompanied by a prolonged and disturbing murder sequence. In spite of the deadly serious nature of the film, Mr. Hitchcock infuses humour into the film in the form of a running gag in which the Chief Inspector (Alec McGowan) is forever being served new and progressively unusual meals by his dotty wife played marvelously by Vivien Merchant.
