Godzilla

I was thoroughly disappointed by this film, as I was highly anticipating its release. The marketing was well executed, the reviews were good, yet the film itself didn't do anything for me, and wasn't particularly enjoyable. While the movie did get a few things right, overall it is not worth seeing. The tone that was set up was great, giving the entire film an eerie feel of pending disaster. The dark, creepy music went well with the tense atmosphere, lending to a set up that looked promising. The visuals were fine, nothing spectacular but there were a few scenes that I thought looked quite cool. The destruction was fun to watch as far as empty destruction goes. Bryan Cranston was good in the scenes he was in, but any other human character the movie tried to follow was uninteresting and boring. There was a point, about twenty five minutes in, where the movie lost me. The pacing was off, the plot didn't fit together coherently, and the dialogue was laughably bad. The movie teased the monster action quite a bit, and while it was fine the first time, the teasing got repetitive as the camera would cut away from the monster just as the action was about to get started. The payoff at the end wasn't worth the wait. After all this teasing, I was expecting something more. The final battle scene was supposed to be epic, yet people in the theater were laughing at how silly it was. This was just a CGI fest. If you are a fan of old school monster movies, and empty destruction, you could enjoy this, however there was really nothing to recommend.
