There is an attempt by Director Edwards to remain true to the Godzilla as a metaphor for nuclear weapons that is such a cultural reference point in Japan but.. and a big but.. there are a few gaps in the narrative that stretch even fantasy credulity. Suddenly there are additional large creatures (very Alien-like) and they feed on radiation (largely an overlooked human danger in the film), but nevertheless an easy lure, to which apparently Godz himself, who views such creatures as prey, is drawn to in the end as well. In this version the big G is a hero, content with victory over prey and apparently not too concerned with those nasty humans that keep shooting or bombing him. The usual family-at-risk cliches are provided, but don't particularly interest. All in all, a pretty average narrative after we depart from Japan.
