Gone Girl is a great thriller filled with talented acting, masterful directing, and multiple twists and turns that keep the audience guessing. Its premise is simple enough (did "he" or didn't "he"), but the story goes in many other directions making for a tense, gripping movie. The movie has countless amazing performances at its disposal, most notably Rosamund Pike, Ben Affleck, and even Tyler Perry. I will be a little surprised if Gone Girl doesn't receive at least a single award nomination for acting. My one critique on the casting decisions was the choice of Neil Patrick Harris. His performance wasn't bad, it was actually very good; I just do not see him as a good fit for the role he plays (this may be my fault, as I am used to seeing him as the comedic character of Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother) The storyline is very intriguing. It starts slow, but quickly raises the audience's interest; and once that intrigue it established, it never ceases until the credits roll, and actually keeps you thinking about the story even as you leave the theatre. My biggest issue with the movie was the last few minutes as Gone Girl never felt like it really was over. I am surprised the story decided to move in this bold direction, but it didn't entirely work for me. Despite this problem, I still highly recommend Gone Girl. It is gripping, intense, and draws you in. It is a very dark movie and may not be for everyone; even the story itself is a dark one (there were a few scenes in particular that I felt were overdone) Nonetheless, I thought Gone Girl was a great movie, and is worth checking out.
