Moby Dick (1956) with Gregory Peck directed by John Huston was a masterpiece. This latest release with Chris Hemsworth directed by Ron Howard is pure photography, excellent cinematography, that provides the movie with the Wow! Factor and its CGI, falls way too short of being a great movie. It meanders from ocean to ocean getting lost at sea in an amazing encounter with the White beast with the memory of an elephant and with an agenda of vengeance and blood in the eye. The main character seems to be the whale, it steals the picture and captain and crew go to a background of stranded in a sea of disaster after disaster from land to sea and from sea to land doing the unimaginable to survive, like an Andes story in the water.
None of the actors (VERY SKILLFUL at managing the ship) has a credible passion to fight like that of Gregory Peck that like a gladiator never gave up till he achieved his goal like a man with a mission. Moby Dick was awesome, this is just sugar candy and the task at hand remains undone. Where is the heart in this flick? It's so lame and tamed like sheep carried onto a precipice in a beautiful seascape while they surrender and are captive to the beauty and admiration for the beast.
