The usual Cohen brothers' sensibilities are in evidence here including quirky characters, dark humour and misanthropy. This is the dark side of the music business featuring an embittered anti-hero whose singing/guitar playing is beautiful but whose persona is abrasive. Naturally he is not a success. He uses his friends. He is a classic craphead. It's an interesting movie, but the protagonist does not connect with his own audience and he did not connect with me. For my money, the Cohen brothers were at peak performance when they produced Fargo and No Country For Old Men.
