    Into the Storm

When I saw Into The Storm, the theatre was nearly empty. This was disappointing as it was only the fifth day of its release and this movie is a lot better than critics are giving it credit for. Into the Storm is a very entertaining movie and a film worth experiencing in a theatre. The special effects are terrific and deliver an exciting big-screen experience. The tornadoes and the debris seem realistic (I have never been in a real tornado but am thinking it would probably look like the movie's depiction), and surpass in a big way the effects of Twister, a movie that Into the Storm is going to draw many comparisons to. The sound effects are hands down the best I have heard all year with a very effective use of surround sound. You can hear the debris flying around to your left, right and immediately behind you creating the illusion that you are a part of the action. Aside from the spectacular visual and sound effects the story, while not perfect, is sufficient for a movie depicting tornadoes. If you try to pick it apart, you will find a few plot holes and inconsistencies within the story, but if you sit back and enjoy the movie, most of these problems don't affect the experience. I didn't find the acting, which has been one of the biggest criticisms, to be all that bad. While I won't remember any of the performances in a year's time, none of the actors stood out as being bad, nor did anyone detract from the movie. There are many intense moments that had me on the edge of my seat, some jokes that were chuckle worthy, and a few dramatic moments sprinkled throughout the movie that I did not expect. I appreciate a movie that exceeds my expectations and in my opinion provides an experience that exceeds what the critics have said I should expect. Into the Storm was one of those movies. I had fun watching this movie, I was entertained and I was also surprised. I really think more people should see this movie, going back to my earlier point about the theatre I was at being almost deserted. While it isn't a perfect movie, it is an entertaining one, and I recommend it to anyone who likes big scale action or disaster movies, or anyone who wants an engaging theatre experience.
