What a sad, lonely, melancholic tale of seventies glam rock star who was the first openly gay rock star. His reign as the American Bowie lasted but 2 short years and two albums. He was basically done in by an over-hyped publicity machine... but the music revealed the real truth. It's shocking that he was shunned by the gay community... good to see how they all helped and supported one another. There are scoundrels in every walk of life. Jobriath was dismissed by critics as a hack. When ostracized by the music world and already ill, he retreated to the downtown Chelsea hotel where he died of Aids at age 37, completely forgotten in 1983. Years after his death new generations discovered his music. How could things go so wrong for one sad individual of whom no cared a mite. He is virtually unknown today even for those who were around in the seventies. Now this is a horror story of the greatest magnitude.
