The David O. Wilson repertory company rides again.
"Joy" could've been a trite goes through the motions, working class hero yarn. I felt it better that, pretty transformative all in all.
Jennifer Lawrence is a fine interpreter of roles, the camera likes her, and she knows how to use it. She's got a bit of Steve McQueen goin' on, she's cool.
The cast here was OK, De Niro a little soft, Diane Ladd fine, Virgina Madsen as ditzy and annoying as demanded.
Bradley Cooper, a great inheritance of a part he was a bit too glossy for.
( Ray Liotta would have killed it.)
Yet, Edgar Ramirez, Isabella Rossellini and Elizabeth Rohm really tensioned the film, and the safety net under the main role.
Good film, moving.
Not a top drawer job in gelling it technically. Post production a bit lean, sequencing languid too often.
Keep saying it, on Broadway this would punch lights out.
For the best of it, winning over the weaker bits, an 8.
Worth seeing, really is!
