Max Payne

I don't get why people are low-rating this movie so much... we went to see it and were pleasantly surprised. Max Payne is a great-looking, noir-ish action thriller that kept us interested and entertained all the way through. It certainly does have a discernible plot, although you have to pay attention to pick it all up... the acting is serviceable if not brilliant, and the story is coherent, even if it's built of familiar story elements (I won't say it's cliched, even if it would be somewhat justified...) What really stands out about this movie is its look... the art direction and effects are amazing... I loved the way the streets of Toronto were melded with the skyline of NYC. If SIN CITY had looked like Max Payne, I would have liked that movie a lot better. This is definitely a move I'll pick up on Blu-Ray.
