    Sicario

Another wham-banger for Denis Villeneuve! This man is making a major mark in Hollywood. As portrayed, the drug cartel situation appears realistic. Can't really tell since these horrors are so far removed from our own urban realities. I know we have our own challenges, the war against drugs is worldwide, but nothing to compare to this and let's hope it never gets to that... ever. If ever there was a demoralizing set of circumstances, this sure takes it. I feel sorry for the citizens in these countries who are exposed to this on a daily basis, my heart goes out to them. The end, very realistic I felt, showed the poor innocent victims of this going about their daily activities with total resignation. I pray something comes along to give them hope. If you're into this type of story, you'll find it enthralling. As for the acting, Benecio del Toro gave a tremendous performance. I apologize to all Emily Blunt fans in advance, for what I'm about to write but I didn't find her at all believable in her role. Her performance fell very short for me. I would've seen maybe Jennifer Lawrence or even little Anna Kendrick could've infused the role with more believable passion than Blunt. My humble opinion.

That is an excellent review. As for Blunt, I think it was one her best performances but the problem was with clarity as to her role in that movie. Why was her character (with expertise chasing kidnappers within the legal and police environment of the US) useful to a military style task force that focuses primarily on brute force to eliminate criminals from Mexico. As a result, she becomes the constant blocker trying to impose the rules of US law in operations that don't fit that process at all. Even the scenario brings some confusion on that crucial issue: at one point she seems to joins for improving her own FBI task force knowledge of the Mexican gangs but in another scene, she is told that her contribution to the TF is very important.

I totally get your point, I had similar observations. I found her "raison d'être" in her role very disjointed. Hard to tell what the thought process behind these cinematic choices is unless we get a chance to question the director or screenwriter. I fell in love with Emily Blunt as an actress while watching "The Devil wears Prada." Could've taken more of her in that movie or types of role. I've seen her in others where I totally loved her but unfortunately none come to mind at this very instant. Thanks for taking the time to comment on my review, take care and... see you at the movies!
