I know this is a classic with great classic numbers but it was a film I didn't enjoy as much as I thought I would. I guess I saw too many tid-bits here and there. Even the "Singin' in the Rain Number" let me down as one can tell it was shot on a studio backlot. That destroyed the scene for me!

I first saw this movie when I was six and, as unsophisticated as I was, I was well aware that one of the most famous musical numbers of all time had been filmed on a studio backlot. Now of course I never considered the cost of all that water used to create the illusion of rain, but I certainly knew those puddles didn't just happen to be there. And I was six. May you and I never be in the same room for conversation would be all but impossible. Oh, yes, and during that same year, my mother took me to hear Lily Pons sing in the Saskatoon arena. You, pad.opera, probably have never heard of her, and wouldn't have appreciated her glorious soprano voice if you had. What a waste that would have been, rather like one of the great MGM musicals which was clearly wasted on you.
