Star Trek: Nemesis

Well, you will read all kinds of reviews on here... some good... some bad. You will even find a very wide spectrum of reviews in the mass media, be they Ebert and Roeper (they split on the review) or any of the large credible newspapers. My point... go see it for yourself. Chances are if you are a Star Trek TNG fan, you will enjoy this movie... just as the same is true with LOTR or Harry Potter."Casual" Star Trek fans probably won't like it because they undoubtedly won't be able to identify as closely with the characters as the true fans will. The film itself is not a work of art but it is vastly entertaining. It is my personal belief that movies these days are targetting too wide an audience and much of the gripping excitement of a film gets lost in the process. Star Wars... point in case... has become kiddy-sci-fi as it attempts to appeal to an audeince that includes children. Remember in the first Star Wars an arm was severed and there was blood to be seen. Star Trek has done the same unfortunately. This movie had the potential to be a truly great Star Trek film. It looked to be dark and brooding. But the film is not dark and brooding... in fact the "Nemesis" namesake of the movie is not very terrifying at all. Had they made a movie more for an adult audience the film makers could have really explored the dark potential of the enemy and brought us to the edge of our seats. Still, the movie is great entertainment. The CGI is excellent. The story is fun and captivating. Just the presence of Patrick Stewart on the big screen is enough to make me want to watch. He plays the role so well. All in all a solid Star Trek film. Some will live and some will die, and a generation makes its final journey. A reminder of things to be certain but Star Trek itself will never die... it will just change its shape. Enjoy the movie.
