The Big Sleep from 1946 has to be one of the most successful movies from the Raymond Chandler novel and the combo of Bogie/Bacall even though there are logistical problems in the movie. Bogie is the famous private eye hired to protect the sister of a high society dame. The sparks really fly off Bogie and Bacall in grand splendour. The mystery of 'The Big Sleep' often seems a bit muddled and convoluted and forced author Raymond Chandler to state he was not conclusively sure who committed one of the murders. The remake was more definitive.
