Though I recognize Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead is a great novel which produced a 'marvelous' motion picture according to almost everyone, it is not one that ever truly captured my imagination. Perhaps it was too stark, too cold as the steel and concrete from which its skyscrapers arose, perhaps a movie which became a bit tiresome with Rand's obsession with her ideas, ideals and philosophy. Starring the great Cooper in a blazingly tremendous role and a very young Patricia Neal as a strong young lady who knows exactly what and who she wants, it has always left me aloof and cold the few times I've seen it! Go explain how a great motion picture simply doesn't cut it for you!
