The Imitation Game

Click here to show this review. A disappointment for a couple of key reasons. The story has two element: firstly he invented a machine (computer) Secondly he was a homosexual who lived in a draconian age and suffered because of that. Neither of these two items was presented significantly. Of course all the actors performed well but again who is not a good actor? Regarding the "machine". We are never told how it works. All we see a bunch of spinning wheels. When the thing finally stops we are left to wonder why. The wheels only displayed a single letter, so how would it know if there was a word OR if it was a critical word? The workings of this device were only presented in a vague way. As for his end-of-life horror- this is only brought up in the last few minutes. It does not present his final year other than a shaky hand and a reference to his conviction. This would have been a great springboard for garnering sympathy from the audience by showing his trail or mistreatment- or why he decided what to do. This part of the movie could have been a whole movie by itself. What is left of this flick is very slow moving, with little action. For more action-- and to save your money-- read up on the guy on the Internet.
