"The Longest Ride" is a formulaic film, but doesn't suffer for it. Après Rodeo movies always seem typecast, and I'm sure annoy the sports true adherents. The casting seems to include just about anyone who considers film " the family business". That's an increasing trend, and if the skills are there, no impediment. I was happy to see Alan Alda and Lolita Davidovich cast in significant roles. Scott Eastwood and Britt Robertson were well suited to their parts, and although telegraphed pretty forcefully, their chemistry was believable. Not likely more than a competent, nice story to while away some mental recreation time. Does it well, good to its audience, a decent example of why movies are part the social landscape, this past century. Good looking piece, shot in very pleasant surroundings, to boot.
