Fascinating to see this truly wonderful western that goes back to 1960. Star Yul Bryner had gone to Japan to secure the American rights for 'The Seven Samurai', an Oscar winning Japanese foreign film from the fifties. When offered to United Artists, it was obviously going to be a star role for Yul or no film would be made. The writers and director John Sturges turned the famed Japanese history of the Samurai into a western based in Mexico dealing with seven gunslingers who help defend from the notorious banditos. The film was an enormous success and can be viewed today as a western that has stood the test of time now for 56 years. The seven gunmen were all amazing actors perhaps with Steve McQueen in a spotlight of his own, but never overshadowing Yul Bryner.
