    The Wolfpack

Crystal Moselle's doc is a first time effort and although the story is unusual and compelling; in the end there were many unanswered questions. The film barely scratches the surface of the home life of these unfortunate but talented and likeable boys. There is only the barest hint of abuse by the paranoid, alcoholic father and he is not very forthcoming or coherent when questioned by the film maker. I expect that it was difficult if not impossible for her to pry for further details of the homelife since she was an invitee. What was the purpose of the cellphone scene and did Moselle provide the phone? If she did then she was imposing an artificial situation and may have been creating an interference which was not part of the film's setting. It would be good to know more about the parents' background, but perhaps these details will be revealed when the brothers produce a more in-depth film and/or book of their own?
