Viridiana is considered Luis Bunuel's masterpiece and it won the Palme d'Or in Cannes in 1961. However this story of a nun to be and an outrageous relationship on the part of a strange uncle she barely knows wasn't to my taste at all. I simply could not take to this disquieting film. Add to this what most won't perceive as Freudian symbolism combined with blasphemous absurdities concerning the Catholic Church and I turned violently against the film... and probably my end with any BUNUEL films!
