There is good news and bad news with this film. First, the good news! Michael Douglas has an enormous screen presence, owns every scene in which he appears, delivers his every word with force and commitment and creates a character that holds the attention of an audience. More good news? Exquisite film footage of the various locations, mainly New York which is breath-taking and exciting. Now for the bad news: at least the first hour of the dialogue consists of rapid-fire stock market lingo, a dialect understood and spoken by those who work in the financial industry which does not make for good movie dialogue. We, the audience, need to know what is happening through plain English in order to connect to the story. Judging by the restlessness of the audience, a few even walking out, this rapport between the film and the viewers didn't happen. The film's many fine qualities were obscured by inner sanctum stock market jargon.
