This movie is a great piece of filmmaking and a great demonstration in acting. In addition to Bette Davis and Joan Crawford the minor characters are impressive. The humour with which the neighbours, Jane's accompanist, and the police officers are written make this movie hugely entertaining. While I did laugh at some of the serious scenes early in the movie by the end of the film I was caught up in the drama. It is easy to see the techniques used in this film in another of my favourites, Misery.
