Charming, heartfelt, sometimes sad story of friendship, love, understanding and the pains of growing up. Because it is hand-drawn animation (no cgi, for a change) by the Ghibli studio (Secret World of Arrietty), there is a warmth and human feeling to the film. And the visuals are amazing. Just look at the detail-the sun reflected from the marsh ponds, the deep green of the swamp grasses, the sunsets. The characters of Anna and Marnie are very affecting and so real. I think it is ok to cry (in some scenes) This is the animated picture that parents ought to be taking their young children to see-particularly their daughters. I loved it. Sadly this may be the last film from the Ghibli Studio.
