Click here to show this review. This exceptionally wonderful biographic film takes the cake. Having this Maria Callas whose career was found of and was considered a person with a wonderful talent. This movie was made the same year she had died. It had been made in Bucharest, Romania. I really had liked very much the approach showing Callas the artist and Maria the woman. This amazing theme in the film had carried throughout this wonderful portait. The excerpts from her opera performances worldwide had shown off her professionalism and magnificant talent of hers which brought many of us viewers attention and had this film to be success. A greek tragedy that even Euripides would hae appreciated, yet the horrible tragedy was ours for the loss of this talented Diva at her age 53. It is noted to be a fiction film I had heard that it happen to be the center of the making of the film George Bizets Carmen. They mentioned that she was born on December 2nd 1923 and had died September 16th, 1977. We were told she was an American born greek soprano. As we had watched this we realize it was about her life towards her wonderful singing career. What to me was remarkable I found was about her musical and dramatic talents of La Divina. It was noted that her education was in Greece. It was quite sad to find out that she had been forced to deal with exigencies of wartime poverty and having the illness (myopia) that had left her on the stage blind. She had gone through alot of struggling and as well scandaling in her career. She had started to lose a great amount of weight and had first started to be heavy and now like a model and then her voice began to decline and had no choice to end her career. It had been noted that her dramtic life and personal tragedy after overshadow Callas. This was the saddening part of the film and considered to be very touching as well.
