Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

The first Harry Potter movie was inspiring, unforgettable, and magical. Now with this second movie, questions came up as to where this series was going. As we were brought back into the magical castle of Hogwarts, the magic is there, but was every Harry Potter movie after this one going to be like this? Harry saves the day, and everyone cheers. Thankfully, the series went a direction that kept me on the band wagon. At this point in the series, it felt as if Harry Potter were those kids movies should've been called "CSI: Hogwarts." Thankfully enough, it changed its reputation. Alfonso Cuaron cleaned things up with his fantastic direction in "Prisoner of Azkaban," but Chris Columbus made this second instalment almost identical to the first one based on the style, the vision, and the length. A little too long for one of the shortest books in the series."Order of the Phoenix" should've been 161 minutes instead of this one being the longest film of the series, which makes absolutely no sense. But to be brutally honest, every film in the series should've been this long or even longer. This film actually worked quite well, and that's because of the length of "Chamber of Secrets." If this was a two-hour film, it would've been cheesy, and quite tacky. Instead, the length of this film makes us sink into the story more, and make us more excited about where the film is going. People don't like long films, but seriously, the longer the film is, the more time we have to connect with the characters and to really get a strong impact from the story. Why was "The Lord of the Rings" so good? Because of the length, and the way they spent time on the journey, and gave us more time to sink into the story. The first two films do just that because they both are quite long films. The longer the film, the more time there is to really grasp the story. Imagine if the last six films were each 15-30 minutes longer. They would be much more powerful films, and they would probably all be great films. The first two films were the only ones that really grasped the magic in the story because of their lengths, however "Half-Blood Prince" and "Goblet of Fire" were the only other two films that somewhat grasped the magic in the story but didn't grasp it as deeply as the first two films did. Even though "Half-Blood Prince" was my favourite film in the series, and deserves high praise, it still could've been longer to really grasp the magic."The Chamber of Secrets" was probably the most magical film in the series. No, it's not the best movie in the series, but it connected with me the most more than any other film in the series because of its length. We get tears in the end because they spend a great deal of time with the characters, and they spend time developing the story. I never got that feeling from any other Harry Potter movie for the rest of the series, including the last one, due to the lack of character development, assuming we all know the characters, instead of spending more time with them so we get the emotional impact at the end of each film. I'm not saying the remaining six movies sucked, they just didn't connect with me as much as the first two did because the remaining six films weren't as long as they should've been. This one wasn't perfect, but it had what none of the last six films had and that was time.
