Koyomi Araragi, a second year student at Naoetsu High School, meets Tsubasa Hanekawa, the top honors student at his school who mentions that a "blonde vampire" has been sighted around their town recently. That evening, Koyomi encounters Kiss-shot Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade, the rumored vampire, lying in a pool of her own blood with all four of her limbs cut off. She asks Koyomi for help, sprinkling her blood around. Koyomi gives Kiss-shot his blood to save her life but in the process he becomes a vampire himself. As Koyomi struggles to accept his new existence, Kiss-shot whispers: "welcome to the world of darkness."
