This Brazilian film debut by a very talented Fernando Coibra is based on real life events and spares nothing in offering a tempestuous, fiery affair that turns all but rancid... a very cruel reality of life. It is the sort of affair that starts off as one thing only to turn out to be a family's worst nightmare. The feature is sheer dynamite as it goes beyond fact and struggles to relate more than a serious surface film delving into the nature of living from an ethical point of view. This full blown tale of undeniable passion, betrayal and revenge literally takes on the dimension of Greek tragedy so stark and bleak is its nature. It is an incredible first film that can let the blood run cold but never in the sense of cheap dramas and absurd thrillers. You will be hard pressed to find acting on a higher scale, each character having his or her very genuine agenda. Through this true story, director Coibra might be relating a cautionary tale for the rest of us, but that is only an opinion of mine. The dénouement to the whole proceedings might come as quite the shock or surprise to the viewer. Be prepared for a real slice of life in all its horrible possibilities. A foreign film much recommended.
