    Abe Lincoln in Illinois

This historical drama on Lincoln by John Cromwell is just one more biographical piece of the future great President. What I liked most was the characterization of Lincoln and particularly Mary Todd Lincoln as portrayed by the great Ruth Gordon in a rarity on screen. It is based on Robert Sherwood's sensational Pulitzer Prize winning play so it has quite a bit going for it. Quite the consummate look at Lincoln before his ascent to the highest office in the land. Massey's lean, long frame and his very ordinary looks adds an extra dimension to the character of Lincoln.
