Al Pacino gives a charismatic performance as a geriatric Neil Diamond / Rod Stewart / Barry Manilow - type "rock" star. He sold his soul to the devil by recording songs written by other people for 30 years, but after reading a long lost letter of encouragement by John Lennon, attempts to reignite the spark that originally made him want to become an artist. What makes this more of a drama than a comedy is the part of the story involving his desire to reconnect to the lovechild he conceived with a groupie. Lennon's 1970's music is used as the soundtrack.
