    Free the Mind

This is a documentary about PTSD and trauma in adults and kids, and research into the brain's response to therapeutic interventions using mindfulness training, meditation and social dialogue. Despite the fact that some in science say we still know rather little about the brain (including University of Wisconsin researcher Richie Davidson who appears in this Danish produced film), we come to know that the brain changes as a result of experience. What's surprising is just how fast such changes can be, even among soldiers suffering PTSD. In as little as a 7 day intervention, 50% showed benefits that could still be detected one month later. One veteran was shown to have a 40% reduction in symptoms, while another showed similar results on some scales of measure, but also experienced about a ~70% improvement in his disrupted sleep habits accompanied by an ability to give up his medication in the last few days of his 7 day treatment period. While the techniques demonstrated may not be an appropriate fit for all people, they do appear to generate positive results on enough people that further clinical trials and investigation appears warranted.
